Realising this, GD Express Bhd acted early by holding a two-day blood donation drive just before the fasting month.
The event, held at the company’s premises, did not get off to a good start due to power outage at the room that was set up for the donation drive.
However, GD Express staff quickly mobilised themselves and relocated the equipment to another part of the factory office that still had power.
The event also attracted GD Express’s neighbours – MPH and Pan Global Insurance – whose staff casually walked in to donate blood.
GD Express sponsored door gifts and provided refreshments for donors.
“This is our way of giving back to the community,” said GD Express executive director Leong Chee Tong.
He said the blood donation drive also opened up new source of donors, as many factory workers around the area were non-donors before.
“We gave away door gifts in the hope that it would encourage them to experience blood donation and continue to do so in the future,” said Leong.
