KUALA LUMPUR: The Government-Industry TVET Coordination Body (GITC) and GDEX Berhad (GDEX) are collaborating to develop a skilled and competent workforce to meet the needs of the courier and logistics industry.
Through this collaboration, both parties aim to jointly develop internship programmes and work-based learning opportunities for practical experience. Both GITC and GDEX shall also exchange information and expertise to align technical and vocational education and training (TVET) curriculum with industry requirements, as well as explore opportunities for joint projects and initiatives related to TVET and the logistics industry.
The collaboration agreement inked today marks GITC’s first collaboration with a corporate partner. GITC was established back in February 2022 to steer the national TVET agenda, by coordinating industry cooperation via an industry-led platform at the national level to articulate the skills and manpower requirement according to sectors. In addition, GITC serves as a unified source of reference for industry inputs on TVET development and demand to the Government.
GITC director Dato’ Palaniappan Joseph said, “Today marks a significant milestone in GIT’s mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Our partnership with GDEX is a testament to our shared commitment to providing TVET graduates with valuable opportunities for growth and development. Through this collaboration, we aim to equip young Malaysians with the skills and experience they need to succeed in the dynamic world of logistics and courier services. By working together, we can create a brighter future for our nation’s youth and contribute to the overall development of Malaysia’s economy.”
GDEX is a homegrown courier and logistics company that was the first in the industry to set up a training academy, known as GDEX Academy, to provide technical and vocational training on courier and logistics curriculum for its employees. These employees, who are mainly school leavers, have the opportunity to obtain their certificates and diploma through programmes that are accredited by Malaysian Skills Certification (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia).
GDEX Berhad managing director and group CEO Teong Teck Lean said, “We look forward to working closely with GITC to create more talents in the courier and logistics industry, which is an essential service industry that connects people and businesses. That is why GDEX has always emphasised on training and upskilling our People, to deliver our best in all that we do.”
